Getting started at ConnectWise

What did you do before joining ConnectWise?

For three years, I taught American history for the Hillsborough County Public School system. After that, I did a little instructional design work and was a corporate trainer at HeathPlan Services.

Being a ConnectWise colleague

What different roles have you had with the company?

So far, just one—Talent Development Trainer.

What do you enjoy about working at ConnectWise?

I love the people. I get to interact with so many great professionals. In fact, even though I’m in the position of “trainer,” I am often the learner because of the competence and expertise I see from so many around me. I can honestly say I’ve grown more as a professional in my years at ConnectWise than in all my previous jobs combined. I also enjoy working for ConnectWise because of its focus on colleague development. That isn’t something every company emphasizes.

What’s something about your job that makes you feel accomplished?

As someone who enjoys teaching, my fulfillment comes from helping others learn. Ultimately, teaching is about helping others, so when someone says to me “That training really helped me,” it’s a very rewarding feeling.

What’s a big win you’re really proud of?

My manager, Laurie Sorensen, and I have created some great leadership development programs that we’re very proud of (though we’re always trying to find ways of improving them). I’m also proud of all the individual instances where someone has told me that my training or personal assistance helped them overcome something they’d been struggling with. Those instances remind me that what I’m doing is truly making a difference in the lives and careers of others.

What’s something you want people to know about ConnectWise?

ConnectWise is truly invested in the professional growth of its colleagues. That type of care for colleagues’ growth is noticeably greater here than at any other company I’ve worked for.

And now for some fun!

If you could have any superpower for 24 hours, what would it be and why?

I’d love to be able to fly. If you’ve ever gone parasailing, or done something similar, you know how peaceful it is to be up in the sky. It would be awesome to be able to soar in the sky and enjoy the peace and quiet. Not to mention, I’d be able to avoid the Tampa traffic!

What’s your go-to karaoke song?

I’m a bit weird when it comes to music. For the most part, I don’t listen to music with words. I generally listen to film scores. So, rather than hearing me sing a karaoke song, you’d likely hear me humming John Williams’ Superman theme, Basil Poledouris’ Robocop theme, Jerry Goldsmith’s Hoosiers theme, or James Horner’s Star Trek II theme, among many others.

What’s one bucket list item you’re most looking forward to?

I’ve always wanted to visit the Shenandoah Valley, not only for its beautiful scenery but for its connection to many events from the American Civil War.
