After meeting with Modern IT’s CEO and founder, Tony Chiappetta, it’s evident that this Southern California-based MSP is thriving. Chiappetta built his company from the ground up, starting in 2002, and has since created a powerhouse organization for both his colleagues and clients.

In the Rearview

Modern IT faced significant challenges in managing multiple security tools, which led to inefficiencies and reactive service delivery. Recognizing the need for a more integrated approach, they transitioned to ConnectWise Asio™, a platform-centric solution that promised to streamline their operations and enhance their service delivery.

“Initially, we struggled with a fragmented toolset, including various security solutions for encryption, MDR/XDR, identity management, dark web scanning, email security, MFA, and DLP just to name a few. The number of tools we had led to integration issues, training gaps, and ultimately created a reactive service model as our efforts turned to supporting issues with tools. Not only that, but also the complexity of managing these disparate systems resulted in security vulnerabilities and operational inefficiencies.”

The adoption of ConnectWise Asio marked a significant shift from a vendor relationship to a true partnership. This platform-centric approach allowed the company to consolidate their tools and streamline their operations. The journey began with the realization that a robust ticketing system was essential. In 2012, they adopted ConnectWise PSA™, transitioning from an on-premise server to a cloud-based solution over time. This move aligned with the broader platform approach of ConnectWise Asio, which resonated with their need for a unified and integrated system.

During a period of transition, Chiappetta’s company explored other ITSM solutions, including those in the Microsoft portfolio. Despite considering a move to Microsoft’s Power Platform, they found gaps in capabilities, particularly in areas like ScreenConnect™ and ConnectWise RMM™ integrations. This led them to reassess their needs and ultimately reaffirm the value of ConnectWise Asio.

“We’ve seen the benefits of a platform work [in the early days with Microsoft]. So, we are bought into the approach of ConnectWise Asio, knowing it will provide MSP-specific solutions, tool consolidation [into a single platform], and reduced complexity to improve the efficiency of our operations.”

Chiappetta realized that while Microsoft’s platform could be customized to meet their needs, it required significant investment and configuration. ConnectWise Asio was designed specifically for MSPs, offering out-of-the-box solutions that met their complex requirements.

Outlook For the Future

Chiappetta expressed strong confidence in ConnectWise Asio’s ability to address future challenges, including AI integration and evolving cyber threats. He believes that the platform’s comprehensive approach to automation and AI will continue to improve operational efficiency and service delivery.

“It’s going to be a journey for everybody that’s going through this iteration, but we are past the most painful parts and it’s just going to continue to improve, leading to a better experience,” he stated, highlighting the ongoing benefits of the platform approach.
