Cloud-Powered Success: How Slipstream IT Cut Script Volume by 50% and Saved 15+ Hours Monthly with ConnectWise RMM

Slipstream is a trusted technology partner exclusively serving the Life Sciences industry. Our global team brings deep domain expertise and pragmatic, end-to-end solutions that simplify complex challenges across the entire product lifecycle. We deliver with speed, compliance, and foresight— empowering clients to accelerate research, optimize time to market, and improve patient outcomes, ensuring technology keeps pace with their life-changing mission.

Challenge

Slipstream IT, a white-glove managed service provider (MSP) serving the Life Sciences industry, needed a solution that could keep pace with its rapid growth. Managing thousands of scripts and hours of weekly patching consumed valuable engineering time. Prior tools weren’t robust enough in patching, monitoring,— and Slipstream needed an RMM that could scale with its customers’ compliance-heavy environment.

Solution

To modernize its IT operations and eliminate inefficiencies, Slipstream IT implemented ConnectWise RMM—a cloud-native platform purpose-built for scalable, intelligent IT management. With powerful out-of-the-box functionality, automated patching, real-time monitoring, and a built-in security dashboard, RMM transformed Slipstream’s service delivery. It streamlined endpoint management, accelerated deployments, and freed engineers from routine maintenance, allowing them to focus on high-value, strategic initiatives that drive business growth.

Results

ConnectWise RMM delivered transformative results for Slipstream IT. Script volume was cut by over 50% and engineers started saving 10–15 hours monthly on patching alone. Endpoint deployments became faster and more consistent across thousands of devices, while intelligent monitoring and automation improved service reliability. Freed from continuous maintenance tasks, engineers shifted focus to strategic initiatives—driving innovation, scalability, and customer satisfaction across Slipstream’s biopharma portfolio.

Slipstream IT is a specialized managed service provider (MSP) that delivers high-touch, white-glove IT services to the Life Sciences industry. With a customer base of over 300 companies—ranging from startups with just a handful of users to enterprises managing thousands of endpoints—Slipstream supports a wide array of needs, including infrastructure, security, compliance, data analytics, and end-user support.

Operating in a highly regulated and data-sensitive industry, Slipstream’s ability to scale securely and efficiently is critical to its success.

From On-Prem Limitations to Cloud-Driven Efficiency

Historically, Slipstream IT used an on-prem remote monitoring and management (RMM) solution, but recurring performance issues and infrastructure limitations made it challenging to maintain consistent reliability and visibility across client environments.

The company then transitioned to a more robust on-premise solution, ConnectWise Automate, which offered more flexibility and advanced scripting capabilities. However, Automate introduced its own set of challenges as the team invested more time into customizing the solution. Before long, engineers were maintaining nearly 2,000 custom scripts to manage functions like patching, monitoring, and automation to their exact specifications- which created significant operational overhead and dedicated resources to maintain the solution. Endpoint onboarding and application deployment were also time-consuming, and the on-prem model raised concerns as Slipstream scaled and wanted to ensure their solution could keep up with the growing customer base.

Recognizing the need for a more modern, scalable solution, Slipstream’s leadership—led by AVP Daxton Kyes—made the strategic decision to adopt ConnectWise RMM.

“We’ve probably shaved off 10–15 hours a month on patching alone since moving to ConnectWise RMM.”

Reducing Scripts, Reclaiming Time: The RMM Advantage — Saving Up to 15 Hours

The transition to ConnectWise RMM, a cloud-native solution on the Asio platform aligned with Slipstream’s long-term goals. It offered a more intuitive, efficient, and secure approach to IT management and marked a turning point in Slipstream’s operations. “ConnectWise RMM eliminated the need for on-prem collectors, reducing infrastructure complexity and improving security posture,” said Kyes.

Kyes also underscored how ConnectWise RMM helped eliminate the need for extensive custom scripting, improving efficiency: “RMM made it a lot more simplified. Reducing engineering time is always going to be an efficiency component for me.” Kyes emphasized that “it freed up our engineering resources to focus on higher-value work.”

The out-of-the-box usability meant that engineers no longer had to manually configure every component, allowing for faster onboarding and reduced training time. “We were able to reduce the number of scripts that we had by 50% with RMM because it had the native feature sets built into it.”

While Automate required extensive scripting to manage patching workflows—including reboots and error handling—ConnectWise RMM introduced intelligent scheduling, automated reboots, and simplified package creation. Kyes shared a clear, quantifiable benefit about how RMM’s patching capabilities directly saved time and reduced operational overhead. “We’ve probably shaved off 10–15 hours a month on patching alone since moving to ConnectWise RMM.”

Smarter Monitoring, Faster Deployments for Scalability

For Slipstream, monitoring was another significant upgrade. In Automate, setting up monitoring required more manual scripting and configuration for components. Kyes highlighted the intuitive, user-friendly nature of RMM’s monitoring setup compared to previous tools. This not only reduced setup time but also improved visibility and responsiveness across customer environments. “With ConnectWise RMM, engineers can use intelligent monitoring packages to customize alerts with just a few clicks. I can literally choose ‘monitor’ and set thresholds for what I want to monitor. It’s so easy.”

Role-based access control (RBAC) and policy management were also more streamlined, making it easier to onboard new engineers and enforce governance. “Endpoint scalability improved dramatically, with intelligent packaging enabling us to push toolsets quickly and consistently during laptop deployments and client onboarding,” said Kyes.

The result was a faster, more reliable deployment process that supported Slipstream’s growth and enhanced customer satisfaction.

“If you’re looking for something robust, with continuous investment in patching, monitoring, and endpoint connectivity—ConnectWise RMM is the way to go.”

A Platform Approach: Driving Tool Consolidation, Team Productivity, and Morale

RMM, powered by the ConnectWise Asio platform, also continues to evolve, with new remediation features and patching improvements released regularly, many of which were influenced by direct feedback from Slipstream and other MSPs.

“We’re watching closely for opportunities to displace other tools internally and consolidate around RMM.” Kyes sees RMM as not just another tool, but as a critical piece of their go-forward platform  that he can use strategically to unify and streamline Slipstream’s tech stack and processes.

ConnectWise RMM Transforms Team Experience and Reinforces Strategic Confidence

Beyond the technical improvements, the transition to ConnectWise RMM had a profound impact on team morale and productivity. Initially, teams from both infrastructure and end-user services had expressed frustration with the limitations of previous RMM tools. But within six months of adopting RMM, those same teams reported a “night and day” difference in usability and reliability. Engineers were no longer bogged down by tool maintenance and could instead focus on strategic project work.

According to Kyes, “When I hear the people pushing the buttons every day come back and say, ‘We don’t have any major concerns,’ that’s music to my ears. It’s a clear sign that the platform is delivering real value.”

With its cloud-native architecture and expanding feature set, ConnectWise RMM has become a cornerstone of Slipstream’s operational strategy. Having evaluated other platforms like NinjaOne, he believes ConnectWise RMM stands out for its ease of use, and continuous investment in core capabilities like patching, monitoring, and endpoint connectivity. “If you’re looking for something robust, with continuous investment in patching, monitoring, and endpoint connectivity—ConnectWise RMM is the way to go.” A strong endorsement for other MSPs, emphasizing RMM’s reliability and future-focused development.

Collaborating for Scale: ConnectWise RMM and the Asio Platform Enable Secure, Script-Free Deployments Across Diverse Environments

Kyes and his team continue to partner closely with ConnectWise, providing feedback and collaborating on feature enhancements. As the Asio platform continues to add to its library of third-party integrations, it enables Slipstream to deploy applications across diverse client environments without duplicating scripts.

This was especially valuable given the scale of Slipstream’s operations and the variety of tools used by its clients. “The evolving security capabilities are particularly compelling, the frequent release of new features—sometimes monthly—ensures that we remain ahead of the curve in delivering secure, scalable IT services.”

Slipstream’s Strategic Shift Sets the Stage for Scalable, Future-Ready Growth
