I’ve seen many changes in both the managed service provider (MSP), IT solution provider (TSP), and business continuity and disaster recovery (BCDR) space over the past decade. Over time, the primary method for data backup has shifted from relying on tape backup to depending on local network-attached storage (NAS) appliances, then to a combination of local and hybrid virtualization using image-based backups, and currently to direct-to-cloud (D2C) as the preferred solution.

While this is a welcome change that has many advantages, it’s not without its challenges. In this blog, I’ll discuss the challenges MSPs face today in managing backups and introduce how ConnectWise Co-Managed Backup™ can help.

Challenge #1: Alert fatigue

MSPs provide a myriad of solutions to protect and store data for BCDR purposes, but what we’re seeing is that many are starting to face alert fatigue associated with managing and monitoring data for dozens of clients.

It’s very resource-heavy and time-consuming to do so, not to mention tedious as well. When people are exposed to a constant stream of notifications, they can become overwhelmed, leading to errors, stress, and burnout. This can be particularly dangerous when the alerts are meant to signal critical events or urgent action is required, such as in a cybersecurity breach.

Challenge #2: Tech utilization

Tech utilization refers to the extent to which technology is being used to accomplish tasks or achieve goals. With the rapid advancement of technology, it has become increasingly important for individuals and organizations to use technology effectively to enhance productivity, efficiency, and innovation.

In business, tech utilization can improve operations, increase productivity, and enhance customer experience. Companies can use technologies such as customer relationship management (CRM) software, project management tools, automation systems, and data analytics to streamline operations, improve decision-making, and drive growth.

How ConnectWise can help

At ConnectWise, we want to address the alert fatigue and tech utilization issues with our ConnectWise Co-Managed Backup solution. Here we leverage our purpose-built ConnectWise NOC Services™ to help our partners provide daily monitoring and support, so they can focus on revenue-generating activities and not waste talent and time on monotonous data functions. Check out this blog, Introducing ConnectWise Co-Managed Backup, to learn more about the benefits of this solution.

Our co-managed backup and NOC services allow us to set up an easy integration workflow and a bi-directional communication path with one of our trusted BCDR-integrated partners. We can provide a status view in the native RMM devices page that provides the backup status and simplifies monitoring of devices' backup state. Alert integration is key for converting BCDR alerts into tickets so partners can easily manage work items for backup too. Our partners can leverage NOC Services to manage the backup solution, which allows technicians to focus on business goals. This is just a small part of what we can do with our partners.

Additionally, we also offer the ConnectWise Partner Program to help you overcome roadblocks to growth. The program was created for MSPs who need go-to-market strategy, marketing, and sales guidance to help them achieve their most ambitious vision of success. The Partner Program provides ConnectWise experts and materials to help scale your BCDR business. In fact, members of the ConnectWise Partner Program grew four times faster and received over $3.3 million to reinvest in demand generation thanks to co-op funds in 2022.

Conclusion

In summary, business continuity and data protection are essential for informed decision-making, efficient operations, competitive advantage, and personalized customer experiences. Working with ConnectWise and leveraging our Co-Managed Backup and NOC Services can give MSPs and TSPs a trusted partner to help them focus on revenue-generating activities, protect, and retain their clients, and create numerous efficiencies.
