6. Go the Extra Mile.
I’ll bet you go out of your way to do business with companies that go the extra mile for you, even if they’re a little more expensive. Try to do the same. Don’t give away the farm, but where little, low or no-cost opportunities to go the extra mile pop up, seize them. It pays off in the long run.
7. Hire Staff that Exude Your Company Values.
One way or another, you’ll probably find yourself hiring in 2014. Talent, ability, and experience are all important, but they need to be balanced with attitude. If an interviewee doesn’t seem compatible with your company values, think twice about hiring them.
8. Grow Employee Engagement.
If your employees aren’t happy, chances are, your customers won’t be either. Start growing a great customer experience from within, and then start reflecting that service attitude out toward customers.
9. Give Back.
Research has shown that—given a level playing field in all other factors—customers are more likely to select a provider who is involved with a philanthropic cause. If you’re already involved in a good cause, start talking about it in your social media or add their “proud supporter” logo to your website.
